Orange Digital Technologies, THE digital content marketing enterprise you should know about, has been beefing up its domain authority—what and why is that important?

It took Netlify at least a year to get to a 71 domain rating score from 25, and that’s with 304 referring domains. And Digital Ocean? It took them a whopping one year to grow from 87 to 89—only two spots!

This is where Orange Digital Technologies is at now compared to the 0 across the board that they began with around the beginning of 2021.

In just a little over two years, starting from 0 and with no referrals at all, Orange Digital Technologies (ODT) has reached this level! Of course, it’s not without precedent, but compared to the average climb—it’s almost like a rocket ship shooting up into space!

This is the guarantee they have for their clients: reliable and effective progress. They don’t promise clients the moon outright, but they can sure get you there with a bit of time and a bit of effort.

—now, that might sound all well and good—numbers go up and stuff—but what does it actually mean? Is it good when the number goes up, or is that actually terrible, and you will be cursed never to have good SEO ever again? Well, if you have any bit of knowledge when it comes to SEO, domain authority is very important to rank well in Search Engine Results Pages, which are what pops up when you’re using search engines like Google, Bing, etc.

But that doesn’t really tell anyone about what domain or website authority is.

So, what is domain authority?

As with everything that has to do with analytics, domain authority refers to a number, a score that presents the likelihood of a website showing up on a search engine results page when compared to competing or similar websites. The number is taken from a scale of 1 to 100, and the higher you go up, the likelier it is that your website will show up.

One thing you need to remember, though, and consider is that domain authority does not actually factor into your website ranking in the search engine results pages. Rather, it only refers to the probability of ranking.

This means the domain authority score is a post hoc number, not a contributing element. It just means your website is doing well as opposed to it not doing well.

Is Domain Authority that Important?

As mentioned before, the domain authority score is a very good indicator of whether or not you are doing well. In fact, a recent study finds that both domain and keyword ranking is closely correlated, meaning that the keywords you are using have an outsized impact on whether or not you are gaining visibility and traction.

Isn’t that neat?

By gauging your domain rating and comparing it to changes or emphasis on the keywords you are using and relating them to the overall brand you are trying to develop or establish, you have a better grasp of where to develop your online presence. This awareness and knowledge give you a clearer roadmap on how to go about things, including how you create your website and engage with your audience.

Domain rating analysis also helps website analysts identify key areas that need immediate improvement.

Okay, now that you know what a domain rating is and why that’s important, what makes a good domain rating? Why is it that we’re praising a climb of 0 to 39 in around three years while 87-89 is considered not good?

What Makes a Good Domain Authority Score?

It bears repeating, but the domain authority is typically measured on a scale of 1 to 100, with one being the lowest and 100 being the highest. So, does that mean that getting 87 is already great?

Not necessarily.

How much your rating should affect you and your website depends entirely on who your competitors are. Don’t get conceited, but raising your domain score from zero to ten can be very, very difficult—but it’s not the end of the world.

What makes your domain authority score good relies on a very crude comparative analysis: if you have a higher score than them, it’s good. It’s as simple as that.

Eighty-nine might be high, and 39 might be low, but that’s if you compare them directly. Eighty-nine won’t really matter much if your competitors rank in the 90s, while 39 is great if your competitors are ranking in the 10s.

Basically, things are going great if you rank higher than your enemies—which is as simple as.
